About My Classroom
Welcome to Ms. DeVoursney's 4th Grade Classroom! I will be teaching my 4th year in 4th grade at Rogers Elementary in Chicago Public Schools. Philip Rogers Elementary School is located on the north side of Chicago in the West Ridge neighborhood of Rogers Park. The school was named after one of the area’s earliest settlers, Philip Rogers and was built in 1937. Our school offers a variety of extra-curricular activities as well as after school clubs. I have participated as a coach or teacher in the following programs:
- Girls Basketball
- Boys/Girls Soccer
- Gardening Club
- Coloring & Meditation
- Online Gaming & Coding Club
Reading & Writing Unit
Annual 4th Grade Wax Museum
One of our favorite units in 4th grade is our Informational Writing/ Non-Fiction Reading unit. This unit involves students selecting an African American or female trailblazer in honor of Black History Month and Women's History Month which takes place throughout February and March. At the end of the unit, each student portrays their trailblazer with props and costumes and our classroom turns into a live wax museum! However, due to remote learning we created a virtual live wax museum with other students joining our meet and sharing on Flipgrid. Check out some photos below.
